Paula and Ernie on Paul O'Grady Show (November 2004)

Paula wrote to Paul O'Grady and appealed for help as she was worried about Ernie who often had to climb onto the roof of the cowshed to repair it. They arranged a surprise for Ernie who thought that he was just going to be part of the live audience of the show. Having successfully kept him away from Hopefield for the day, the cowshed was transformed with a new roof and paint. The cameras showed the before and after pictures to him and the television viewers. Ernie was absolutely thrilled and I am sure the cows must be too!

Hopefield Receives Recognition from The Essex Chronicle and from Vegan SX

The first award that Ernie and Paula received in October 2004 was as part of the Essex Achievement Awards 2004 which was organised by The Brentwood Gazette and The Essex Chronicle. The award ceremony was held at Stock Brook Country Club in Billericay and was attended by the Countess of Wessex, Anthea Turner, the Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Lord Petre and other civic dignitaries. Paula and Ernie were recognised for their dedication to animal rescue and were presented with a certificate and a cheque for 50 each by Anthea Turner.

Paula and Ernie received their second award in October 2004 in recognition of their twenty years of service to Essex animals. The award was presented by vegan poet, Benjamin Zephaniah, at the World Vegan Day celebrations on Friday 29th October 2004. Brentwood School Courage Hall hosted the event at which Hopefield exhibited. Alongside the sanctuary were suppliers of vegan products and other animal welfare organisations. Below is a picture of Paula holding the shield. Diablo the goat is obviously very impressed.
