We received a call from a gentleman who had bought some sheep to graze his land, not realising that one was pregnant. One morning, he went to the field and was shocked to discover Simon and his twin brother!
Sadly, his twin was stillborn and mum had rejected Simon. Rejected lambs are very common in the farming industry and many die from being left to fend for themselves, or not being found in time.
Luckily for Simon, this was not the case. As soon as he arrived at the sanctuary (at one day old), he was given some lovely, warm lamb milk replacer and a heat pad to help prevent him from getting pneumonia. It's still early days, and has already seen the vet for treatment on his eyes due to an infection. The vet said that considering all he's been through, he is very strong.
Simon was so tiny when he arrived and had a lot of growing to do, but he is a real character! He was being fed every couple of hours for the first couple of weeks.
He's now five weeks old and going strong! His little horns have started to grow though, and he's a little ball of energy. He's on the go all the time - not like other lambs we've previously hand-raised. Whilst they would literally eat and sleep, Simon likes to run and buck!
He's now being fed every four hours, but in a couple of weeks he will start to try hard feed.
